CTHA’s Microcredit programme provides start-up loans to impoverished women who typically lack collateral, steady employment and a credit history. Our aim is not only to support entrepreneurship and alleviate poverty, but also to empower women and, in many cases, uplift entire communities.
This programme was launched in December 2016 with a pilot project in Batticaloa District. 15 women were loaned Rs 20,000 at 10% interest. The typical market rate is 24%.
This fall we plan to support another 15 women with Rs 300,000 (CAD $3,000)
